SQWM Resource Guide for Survivors of Gender-Based and Domestic Violence

South Queens Women’s March was founded to respond to the many issues affecting women, girls and gender fluid people in our community, especially gender-based violence. We remember the lives of countless South Queens based sisters lost to gender-based violence and release this guide with the vision of a world free from all types of violence and patriarchy.

SQWM Members Storybook

South Queens Women’s March is grateful to our members who fight every day for justice and access to resources in South Queens. This storybook captures many on our team who have played an immense role in building a safe and sustainable community in South Queens. Our members pave the way for our long-term vision to create a world free of violence, injustice, patriarchy, and oppression; a world where all genders are on equitable footing, in the home, workplace, houses of worship, and our community at large.

SQWM Interfaith Toolkit to Combat Gender-Based Violence in Our Communities

Even before the pandemic, faith-based institutions were leaned on heavily by community members for solace and comfort. Faith leaders had already been viewed as de facto counselors during family crises. In the absence of equitable access to mental health resources. Faith leaders have often been contacted for intervention in intimate partner violence situations. However, faith leaders in South Queens have repeatedly voiced that they are ill-equipped with the tools necessary to be advocates for change as it pertains to gender-based violence. Moreover, Scripture has too often been used to facilitate patriarchy in our communities as opposed to dismantling it.

This SQWM toolkit seeks to provide faith leaders with the tools to effectively support survivors of gender-based violence towards healing, and includes spiritual reflections, Scriptural passages and art supporting gender-equity and survivor healing.

Calling all faith leaders to take the faith leader pledge to end domestic and gender-based violence

I pledge to be a proactive agent of change, to aspire to end gender-based violence, and to encourage and educate so that every member of my congregation and community will advocate for gender-equity and women’s empowerment.
