KERRY DA SILVA COX
www.kerry-cox.com
Kerry Cox’s describes her process as formalized stream of consciousness. Her diverse interdisciplinary practice draws from many varied sources including autobiography, dreams, and art history. She works through the lens of her mixed Brazilian-American heritage exploring the themes of mysticism, inhabiting the physical body, the natural environment, and our current frenzied cultural landscape. Cox works in performance and video, informed by wide range of spiritual and movement practices, from Brazilian spiritualism to Bhakti Yoga, but grounds her work in the material practices of drawing, painting and sculpture. She cites Tunga, Mike Kelley, and Eva Hessa as favorite artists. She is interested in the body as a space of freedom and limitation with the potential to navigate and heal the current dystopian climate.
